 Exercises & Precautions

Nurse helping patient

Doing exercises helps to promote good circulation, increase muscle strength, and prevent blood clots. Your physiotherapist will show you how to do your exercises. As you heal, you will be able to do more every day.

As well, a key part of having a good recovery will be to follow the list of "precautions" or rules you will receive while you are in hospital to protect your hip or knee joint after surgery.

Exercise will help you:

  • Strengthen your muscles
  • Move your new joint and prevent joint stiffness
  • Improve blood flow to your legs

It is also important for you to do the applicable exercises listed in the tabs below before your surgery to make your muscles are stronger before you come into the hospital.

Click on the tabs below to learn more about your exercises and precautions after having hip or knee after replacement surgery.
