 Halifax Infirmary Hospital

Capitol Health  - QE 2

Located in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia, the QEII is the largest adult academic health sciences centre in Atlantic Canada. It was created in 1996 with the merger of Victoria General Hospital, Halifax Infirmary, Abbie J. Lane Memorial, Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial, Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre and the Nova Scotia Cancer Centre. In addition to providing care to tens of thousands of Atlantic Canadians each year, the QEII is a centre of excellence in health research. Orthopaedics is located in the Halifax Infirmary building.

Bring to Hospital

Walking Aids:
  • Bring walking aids to hospital ON DISCHARGE DAY to make proper adjustments
 
Optional, but Recommended
 
Sitting Aids:
  • Firm foam cushion (at least 4” thick x 16” deep X 18”wide)
Dressing Aids:
  • Dressing equipment (long handled reacher, long handled shoe horn and sock aid)

Equipment for Home
Required
 
Walking Aids:
  • Walker 
  • Crutches or Cane * for stair climbing
Sitting Aids:
  • Raised toilet seat (with armrests) OR commode chair
Dressing Aids:
  • Dressing – Long Handled reacher
 
Optional, but Recommended
 
Sitting Aids:
  • Firm foam cushion (at least 4” thick x 16” deep X 18”wide)
Bathing Aids:
  • Long Handled Sponge
  • Non-Slip Bathmat
  • Hand-held shower hose
For Walk-in Shower:
  • Shower chair
For Bathtub:
  • Tub transfer bench or bath chair
  • Grab bars or add-on tub rail

Only if Needed (if you have someone to help with your dressing, these items may not be required)

  • Dressing – Long Handled Shoe Horn
  • Dressing – Sock Aid
  • Elastic shoe laces (otherwise use slip on shoes with an enclosed heel)
