 Preparing Yourself

Senior woman with colander of vegetables

Preparing for joint replacement surgery involves a strong commitment of self care and prehab (doing rehab activities and exercises before surgery). These include: being physically fit, eating healthy, stopping or cutting back smoking, managing your weight, understanding how to manage your pain, and keeping a positive attitude!

The techniques found in the resuming daily activities in the recovering at home section have good body movements and safety in mind, and are recommended to help protect your joints and reduce your pain prior to surgery.
